ABOUT US
Borambil Merino Stud was established by the Mathews family in 1968 and was purchased in 2006 by Rodger and Kim Mathews. In 2012 the stud relocated to “Collendina” Corowa and is operated in conjunction with commercial winter and summer cropping, and beef cattle enterprises in a 500ml rainfall environment.
Traditionally based on Roseville Park and Nerstane bloodlines, the strategic introduction of new bloodlines from Wanganella, White River and Yarrawonga Merino Studs has assisted Borambil to increase sheep size and wool cut.
In 2014, Borambil Poll Merino Stud was established based on Moorundie and Poll Boonoke bloodlines, and has since been primarily supported with the introduction of Roseville Park and Yarrawonga genetics.
Borambil stud principal, Rodger Mathews continues to focus on wool quality, wool cut, and well-nourished skin types on sheep that are easy care with quick maturity, high fertility and strong conformation. Borambil sire selection focuses on proven bloodlines and complementary types, confirmation and objective data. Borambil's stud ewes are typically 70-80kg mature body weight, cutting 8.5kg of 19.0 micron bright white wool.
Borambil Merino and Poll Merino Stud was long supported by renowned stud advisor Bill Mildren. Borambil currently works closely with Nutrien's Rick Power (stud advisor) and David Johnson, and Elders' Rex Bennett.
